Baha Mousa: Blaming individuals helps whitewash the UK government's crime
London, UK, September 8 2011 -Responding to the Baha Mousa enquiry findings, UK Defence Secretary, Liam Fox, has blamed Baha Mousa's death on the "indiscipline" of a few British soldiers, conveniently ignoring the criminal decision of the British state to invade and occupy Iraq that resulted in the deaths of countless others, as innocent as Baha Mousa.
Baha Mousa was killed in British custody, suffering 93 separate wounds, yet the 2008 army report attributed all this to soldiers being 'poorly trained for insurgency'.
Taji Mustafa, media representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, said, "It is not surprising that the UK government has sought to shift blame away from its decision to invade Iraq, onto the ‘indiscipline' of a few soldiers as the cause of the death of Baha Mousa. Was Baha Mousa not initially arrested as a suspected insurgent resisting a foreign occupation? After which he was then tortured and beaten to death."
"The UK government may have been belatedly forced to admit the shame of beating one man to death, but continues to defend the brutal invasion of the whole country in the name of ‘freedom and democracy' when it employed, carpet bombings, ‘shock and awe', use of cluster ammunitions, and other actions that resulted in the death of countless Iraqis at the hands of occupiers who ‘don't do body counts'."
"The occupation of Iraq and abuse of ordinary Iraqis at the hands of western armies is much more indicative of western foreign policy towards Muslims. By demonising Islam and Muslims, describing Islam as an 'evil ideology', attacks on Shariah and the Caliphate, prominent western politicians created a climate where their troops could beat an innocent man to death, and torture countless others."
"These events, alongside their support of tyrant rulers in the Muslim world - including Gadaffi and Mubarak - indicate the extent they were willing to discard all the norms and principles that they had previously been preaching to the world, in order to suppress Islamic revival in the Muslim world."
"As the masses are overthrowing the puppet regimes in the Middle East, Hizb ut-Tahrir calls upon the people of region to establish a new order going forward - one free from the interference of western colonial powers."
