Cameron's Middle East visit exposes the hypocrisy, opportunism and capitalist nature of Britain's foreign policy
London, UK, February 22nd 2011 - As British supplied weapons are being used to massacre people in Libya, UK Prime Minister David Cameron arrived in Egypt to meet its military rulers and tour the region promoting arms sales, accompanied by representatives from eight defence companies. These include representatives from BAe Systems, Rolls Royce and QinetiQ - whose former non-executive chairman, Pauline Neville-Jones, is currently a minister in Cameron's government.
Taji Mustafa, media representative for Hizb ut-Tahrir in Britain commenting on Cameron's visit said: "The arrogance, hypocrisy, opportunism and promotion of capitalism by the British government is breathtaking. Even before the dust has settled in Tahrir Square, Cameron has arrived to ensure Egypt's generals continue to serve the Western agenda that Mubarak has done for the last 30years!"
"Cameron is promoting arms contracts in a region where British supplied arms are being used against civilian populations. As questions are being raised about Ghaddafi's use of elite military units trained by the British SAS, Cameron hypocritically condemns the use of ‘vicious' force by Gaddafi in Libya and the ruling family in Bahrain."
"For decades, Britain and other western governments have given these tyrants arms, and financial and political support whilst they oppressed their people, and only now claim distaste for such policies."
"By bringing thirty-six corporate executives with him - eight of which are arms contractors - at a time when Egypt is in political flux, he exposes Britain's capitalist self interest and is fuelling the conflicts of interest and corruption in the political class that blight the Muslim world, and other countries in the developing world."
"He claims to champion ‘freedom and democracy' whilst arrogantly vetoing any form of Islamic governance (caliphate) in the region."
"The people of Egypt must beware of these western politicians who, like Napoleon, arrive with sweet words thinly masking their naked ambition to influence and exploit this strategically important land."
"We call upon the people of Egypt to be wary of any change blessed by the Western powers. Freedom and democracy are no more than a smokescreen behind which lies the colonial tentacles of these Western powers."
"Real change will only come by breaking this unholy relationship with western capitalist states, and protecting the political process from influence by them. This can only be through the Islamic Caliphate System, which would constitutionally prevent such influence and corruption, build a truly accountable government elected by the people and end the injustice the Muslim world has suffered for decades."
