Democracy Does Not Provide Stable Governance

News:

The federal government on 15th July announced that it has decided to ban Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and to seek Article 6 treason proceedings against its founder Imran Khan, ex-president Dr Arif Alvi, and former National Assembly (NA) deputy speaker Qasim Suri. The Information Minister said that if the country is to move in a forward direction, it cannot do so with PTI’s existence. (mofa.gov.pk)

Comment:

After the 8 February 2024 general elections in Pakistan, it was perceived that the country will be stabilized at least politically, after the formation of governments in the federal Capital and provinces. However, since then, the country is embroiled in political fighting amongst its political parties. Although the supporters of democracy describe this crisis as the beauty of democracy, as it manifests freedom of expression, in reality it produces instability, as we see currently in Pakistan and the United States.

In Democracy, the opposition parties are supposed to account the ruling party, so the rulers remained in check. It is claimed that the policies are refined because of counter arguments presented by the opposition parties in the parliament. However, in reality every opposition party does not account the ruling party for ensuring better governance. The opposition accounts to undermine the ruling party so that it can have its turn in power. As for the ruling party, it does not regard the opposition as a genuine stake holder in the system. If the opposition survives, it will be a serious hurdle for the ruling party to come in to power again.

As for Pakistan, the PTI, the party of Imran Khan, is the single largest party in the current national assembly. It senses that the ruling party is hugely unpopular because of its colonialist economic policies. So the PTI is working hard to undermine the ruling party, the Pakistan Muslim League of Nawaz Sharif (PML-N). It is simply rejecting to any request of reconciliation from the regime. In turn, the PML-N wants to ban the PTI to secure its continuation in ruling.

This political crisis is nothing new. It was the same when the roles of the parties were reversed. The PTI government from August 2018 till April 2022 did the same against the opposition parties, especially PML-N. PTI filed court cases against the leadership of PML-N and other opposition parties. It arrested them and planned to remain in power till at least 2028. The PTI government was hugely unpopular because of its implementation of the destructive economic program of the colonialist tool, the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

As for the United States, the champion of Democracy, it is also embroiled in a political crisis. In the last American presidential elections, the sitting president, Donald Trump, rejected his defeat and encouraged his followers to attack Capitol Hill, the seat of the US government. In the run up to the next presidential elections, the current Biden regime is trying its best to oust Trump from the presidential election race, by implicating him in various cases.

Only the Islamic ruling system, the Khilafah (Caliphate), can end political chaos in Pakistan and provide a stable government. In this system people select a person as their Khaleefah (Caliph) to implement Islam. The elected representatives of the consultative Majlis of the Ummah accounts the Khaleefah according to the Islamic Shariah rulings. The Khaleefah remains in power as long as he is capable to run rule according to Islam. There is no provision of vote of no confidence by the Majlis Ummah or a limited tenure of the Khaleefah. So, the regime remains stable.

The Muslims of Pakistan have seen too much of political and economic chaos. They deserve to have stable and secure life for themselves and their future generations. This can only happen by uprooting the democratic system and establishing the Khilafah (Caliphate) on the Method of the Prophethood.

The Prophet (saw) said,

“Banu Israel had their affairs taken care of by the Prophets (as). Whenever a Prophet died, he was succeeded by a Prophet. There is no Prophet after me. There will be Khulafah and they will be many.” They asked, what do you order us in their regard. He said, “Give them Bayah, one after another. Give them their right. Allah (swt) will ask them about their charge.” [Muslim and Bukhari]. Imam An-Nawawi stated in his Sharh (Explanation) of Muslim, أي، يَتولَّون أُمورَهم، كما تَفعَلُ الأمراءُ والوُلاةُ بالرَّعيَّةِ، والسِّياسةُ، القيامُ على الشَّيءِ بما يُصلِحُه “That is, they take care of their affairs, as ameers and governors do with subjects, whilst politics (siyaasah) is taking care of a thing in a way that makes it right.”
