River Aggression by Hindutva India:
An Issue of State Security for Bangladesh

Major rivers continue swelling amid torrential rain and onrush of water downstream from India. Around a dozen trans-border rivers with India in Sylhet and Sunamganj were swelling, while river Kushiara was flowing 114cm above the danger level and Surma was flowing 83cm above the danger level. In the northern district of Lalmonirhat, water level of the Dharla and the Teesta increased to cross danger level in the last two days due to surge of water downstream from India. (The Daily Star)

Comment:

Bangladesh is facing a national crisis at this moment due to extreme flood. Around 7.5 million people’s lives have been affected by the flood, of which half a million people have completely lost their habitats and belongings. Around 1.7 million shelters ARE submerged, 278 thousand hectors of cropland damaged and about a million livestock have been seriously affected by the flood. Along with hunger, fear and distress, various waterborne diseases are on the rise (July 2, 2022, The Daily Star). However, the government labelled this as a regular incident to justify its inaction and irresponsibility in taking care of the affected people. But the treacherous government failed to acknowledge that this incident is the regular consequence of India’s river aggression for the last fifty years.

India and Bangladesh have 54 trans-border rivers all of which are part of the drainage system of Ganga-Brahmaputra-Meghna (GBM) Basin. Three major rivers which flow from upstream India into downstream Bangladesh are Ganga, Brahmaputra and Barak. India constructed multiple water dams and reservoirs in this three rivers and halt the water in the winter-summer and opens the water gates during the monsoon. Farakka on the river Ganga and Tipaimukh on the river Barak are the most notorious among these dams.  Due to this, all major rivers in Bangladesh swell and flow over the danger line during every monsoon, causing hundreds of people to die and millions of people to lose their homes, properties and belongings. Bangladeshi experts are in favour of excavating the river beds to increase water inhibition capacity of rivers for reducing floods and building dams in its own territory to preserve water for the summer and winter. Due to Indian pressure and opposition, Bangladesh is yet to materialise its mega excavation project in River Teesta and the 2.1 kilometre long Ganga-Barrage project in Rajbari district. India is obstructing and opposing such projects only to keep Bangladesh vulnerable to its river aggression which the Hindu state considers and uses as a strategic weapon against the Muslims of Bangladesh. Through these dams the impure Hindus can harm us even without moving their military assets a single inch! Allah (swt) warns us:

[وَدُّوا مَاعَنِتُّمْ قَدْ بَدَتِ الْبَغْضَاءُ مِنْ أَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَمَا تُخْفِي صُدُورُهُمْ أَكْبَرُ]

“They (disbelievers) do not fall short of inflicting harms upon you. They love what distresses you.” [Aali-Imran: 118].

The puppet Hasina regime is serving India in its quest of harming the Muslims through its decades-long water aggression. The imminent Khilafah (Caliphate) State’s arrival on the world scene would be sufficient for India to abandon its river aggression projects. Apart from building proper infrastructures around the haor (wetland) and rivers along with its regular excavation, the Khilafah will immediately act to get rid of these lethal dams once and for all as these dams will always keep Ummah’s sovereignty under threat. Our Master Muhammad (saw) said:«وَإِنَّمَا الْإِمَامُ جُنَّةٌ يُقَاتَلُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ وَيُتَّقَى بِهِ»“The Imam (Khaleefah) is a shield, behind whom the Muslims fight and protect themselves” [Bukhari and Muslim].
