Press Release The Lamu Curfew has Poured Petrol to a Burning Fire
The banning of movement from dusk to dawn in the Lamu archipelago, has led to massive demonstrations by the local pressurizing the government to lift the ban.
This move has increased oppression and sufferings to the Lamu residents whose majority are Muslims, considering that the backbone of the economy is night-fishing. How can the police commissioner David Kimaiyo claim the curfew is after controlling insecurity yet the locals are being deprived of their livelihood?
How can it be said as such, yet the law society of Kenya in their investigation have revealed that many security officials have been involved in the killings of innocent in Lamu and its environ. [Daily Nation, OCT 16] Mr. Kimaiyo, is that what you call security measures? Indeed your comments towards Lamu people but to entire Kenyans are tantamount to the Arabs saying that goes: How can I trust you and here is a scar from your hatchet? Certainly, this order is nothing but adding petrol to the burning fire! This is precisely what we have been emphasizing over and over that the indigenous Lamu residents are faced by assortments of oppression including being robbed of their lands by political tycoons.
We prove that Islam has identified that security is one of the vital needs of the citizens, which is incumbent upon the government to secure. The security forces ought to be on the front line in safeguarding the citizens' security so that they can prosper in life. Islam has categorically warned the security forces of breach of peace and security, as is the norm in the capitalist countries. That is why Islam has prohibited and stated the act of police clubbing citizens let alone killing them as an act of anathema whose perpetrator deserves burning in the Hell before Allah Taala. This is what we get from the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) as was reported from the hadith narrated by Imam Muslim that the Prophet (saw) said,
«صنفان من أهل النار لم أرهما، قوم معهم سياط كأذناب البقر يضربون بها الناس»
"Two type of people are among the hell dwellers...people with clubs like the tails of cattle"... Its quite unfortunate that due to the lack of full implementation of Islam as an ideology under an Islamic state of Khilafah "Caliphate", this right is not observed and is always neglected; this is a clear indication that exposes the failure of the capitalist ideology to secure security.
