Press Release
Ongoing Zanzibar Police Oppression is Failure of Democracy
Hizb-ut Tahrir / East Africa apart from condemning the past two weeks of violence in Zanzibar, forcefully condemns the Tanzania Police Force brutality and their collaboration with Zanzibar Palamilitary Units (Kvz) on intimidations, harassments, arbitrarily arrests, torture, illegitimate home intrusion, extra-judiciary killings and taking law into their hands under the pretext of restoring peace and order. A situation that has caused a sense of fear, hate and further triggered social relations.
This ongoing Police and Paramilitary harassment indicates the double standard and hypocrisy of democracy since it has been known to everyone for a while, that a radical nationalistic stance (Assabbiya) on issue of union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar is being blessed by the Government of National Unity (GNU), suddenly overnight became a great sin! Not to mention democratic lies of ‘rule of law' and an empty evil slogan of ‘freedom of opinion.' It is only freedom when an opinion complies with and accepted by the state.
Furthermore, this current scenario exposes a day-dream and empty expectations full of deceit to fool the people on the issue of Government of National Unity, which openly proves the failure of security aspects, not to mention the other aspects especially the economic aspect where its rotten is blatant. And this failure is natural because the basis is built upon the wrong and evil ideology of democracy.
Hizb-ut Tahrir clearly states that it is only Islam whose stance is built upon a strong basis and not benefit, and true peace and tranquility can only be guaranteed under the shade of its state, Khilafah "Caliphate".
