The decision not to investigate MI5 and MI6 torture claims shows collusion at the highest level of government
London UK, 27th Feb 2010 - The decision of the UK Attorney General Baroness Scotland that MI5 and MI6 will not be investigated in connection with their complicity in the torture of detainees abroad only further adds to the clear impression that such detestable and illegal activity is now being officially condoned at the highest levels and that western states believe they are above their own laws.
Yesterday's damning court of appeal verdict said the mistreatment of Binyam Mohamed took place with the knowledge of British secret service agents and a US court has already concluded that the UK authorities had "facilitated the ill-treatment and torture" of Mohamed while he was in US custody.
Taji Mustafa, Media Representative of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain said, "While the British government may protest that it is against torture in principle, the reality is that it has been deeply complicit with the American policy and the Binyam Mohamed case has exposed the hypocrisy of their position."
"It is little wonder that trust and respect for the secular values espoused by western governments have little acceptance anywhere in the Muslim world. Pre-emptive strikes for regime change, military occupation, and now pre-emptive torture to elicit confessions, desired intelligence or to simply bully, show the true face of a morally bankrupt government and Muslims have already experienced enough of those in the Muslim world"
"These damning revelations have now exposed the ugly face of capitalism which hides behind slogans of freedom, democracy and tolerance. These now have no traction in the Muslim world and with every new revelation, calls for the Caliphate, an alternative to the western backed rulers, is getting stronger".
