Hizb ut-Tahrir report launch ‘Afghanistan and Pakistan: The Unwinnable War' and an alternative path for the region
Hizb ut Tahrir Britain formally launched its report ‘Afghanistan and Pakistan: The Unwinnable War' at a Press Conference in central London today. The report launch coincided with the London Conference on Afghanistan to be hosted by the British Prime Minster Gordon Brown and Hamid Karzai on Thursday 28th January.
The Press Conference was chaired by Jamal Harwood, member of the Executive Committee of Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain, with Taji Mustafa, Media Representative Hizb ut Tahrir Britain and Atif Salahuddin from Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain's Pakistan Committee also on the panel. Jamal Harwood opened the press conference and Taji Mustafa then delivered a formal statement regarding the publication of the new report which was followed by a lively question and answer session.
Taji explained that when Western leaders attacked and invaded Afghanistan in 2001 they promised a better and brighter future for the people. Yet today the West's war has brought nothing but misery and bloodshed in a brutal occupation that has killed thousands of Muslims in Afghanistan. The West promised ‘freedom, human rights and democracy' but instead the world has seen Afghans being held and tortured at Bagram and Guantanamo Bay whilst democracy has delivered the regime of Hamid Karzai which is known for nothing but corruption and has empowered brutal tyrannical warlords throughout Afghanistan.
Moreover the West has now driven this war into Pakistan which has resulted in more terror and bloodshed in what was a stable country before the arrival of the Americans in 2001 he said. Taji Mustafha said that Pakistan's sovereignty has become meaningless as the Zardari-Gilani PPP regime collude with America every day in bombing Pakistan's own people and allowing American mercenaries' like Blackwater and Dyncorp to roam and kill freely. America's objective was to weaken Pakistan whilst seeking to strengthen India in the region. The only solution left for Pakistan's crisis is the immediate removal of Zardari and the establishment of the Khilafat which will not only unify all of Paksitan's people based on their belief in Islam irrespective of whether they are Punjabi, Pathan, Sindhi or Balochis but serve as the means to unify the whole Muslim world.
Atif Salahuddin dismissed the sending of another 30,000 troops as part of Obama's ‘surge' as a last desperate attempt to reach an accommodation with the Taliban. Gordon Brown and other leaders will pull out their chequebooks on Thursday in order to try to bribe the resistance fighters in Afghanistan so that a humiliating defeat can be avoided. Atif Salahuddin questioned why the West was seeking to negotiate with the Taliban in Afghanistan but insisted on new military operations in Pakistan. Do they prefer peace in Afghanistan at the expense of Pakistan he asked?
Jamal Harwood explained that Hizb ut Tahrir's report called for the immediate withdrawal of Western troops from Afghanistan and Pakistan and called for the people to decide upon their own destiny, not have a forced system of secular values imposed on them by the West at the end of a barrel of a gun. Jamal encouraged the people of Pakistan to work with Hizb ut Tahrir in Pakistan at all levels of society so that Khilafat could be established to end America's colonial nightmare in Pakistan and have her borders finally secured.
The press conference was closed with a dua by Taji Mustafa.
