“Numbers cannot define the quality of education,” said a renowned professor regarding the quality of education of Bangladesh. If numbers did define how good the education system was, Bangladesh is actually doing a phenomenal job. What used to be under 100 students receiving a GPA of 5 only a decade ago has risen to almost a hundred thousand.

Throughout the history of Bangladesh, its education system has always been under the process of secularization from the policies implemented by the successive secular governments of the country. This sad state of the education system is now being taken several steps further by the current ruling government due to the disastrous decisions taken under the name of “modernization”.

The Turkish Republic hit its major blow in rooting Islamic values out of its people through secularising its education system. The 'Law on Unification of Education' implemented from March 3, 1924 was an essential move towards 'modernizing', i.e. 'secularizing' Turkey's cultural life, and thus is the name of the largest reformation in the Republic.
